Slipway winch is custom-designed to move boats or ships in and out of the slipway onto the dock. It is mostly used when boats must be carried out for maintenance and repairs, and it can also be used for dragging and moving heavy objects on the ground.
Types of slipway winches for sale by Aicrane:
- Electric slipway winch
- Hydraulic slipway winch
- Friction type slipway winch
- Single drum slipway winch

Pulling Boat Ashore Plans
Pulling Boat With Airbag
Advantages:
– Airbag is an innovative way for ships to land ashore.
– It can adapt to different types of ships to land.
– The flexibility of the airbag prevents damage to the hull structure.
– It requires simple equipment, low construction cost, convenient maintenance and management.
Parameters that need to be determined for the airbag pulling plan:
– Determine the type of winch: electric or hydraulic, single drum or friction type
– The weight of the largest ship pulled
– Ramp angle
– The speed of pulling boat
– The length of pulling boat
– Accessories you may need: wire rope, moving and fixed pulley sets, guide wheels, etc.
Pulling Boat With Rail Trolley
The rail trolley is ideal for pulling small tonnage vessels ashore.
Parameters that need to be determined for the rail trolley pulling plan:
– Determine the type of winch: electric or hydraulic, single drum or friction type
– The weight of the largest ship pulled
– The weight of the rail trolley
– Slope of the slipway track
– The running speed of the rail trolley along the track
– The length of the slipway
Slipway Winch Design
The winch can adopt a single drum or friction type, which can make full use of the slipway space, and the same slipway can pull multiple ships ashore.
Friction Type Slipway Winch

Friction Winch In Our Factory:
Advantages of Friction Type Electric Winch:
– Since the rope outlet position remains unchanged, no deflection angle of the wire rope will be produced, which reduces the wear of the wire rope and increases the service life of the wire rope.
– The pulling force and speed of the rope are constant, so the whole machine runs stably and the impact force is small.
Main Structure of Friction Winch:
– Friction drum
The friction drum set must be equipped with rope grooves to increase the friction between the steel wire rope and the drum. The number of rope grooves is generally 6-10.
– Rope storage drum
The rope storage drum is only used to store steel wire ropes and does not provide pulling force. It is controlled by the drive torque of the frequency conversion motor, which can better maintain synchronization with the friction drum.
– Rope pressing device
It prevents the wire rope from falling out of the groove when it is not working.
The rope pressing device is generally mechanical.
The rope pressing wheel is generally synchronized with the drum set through the sprocket chain transmission.
Friction winches use the friction between the steel wire rope and the drum to generate tension.
Single Drum Slipway Winch
Features of Single Drum Winch:
- The distance from the single-drum winchto the fixed pulley is about 10 times the length of the drum. Therefore, the single-drum winch takes up more space.
- According to the height of the fixed pulley, the winch can be made withupper rope or lower rope. Generally, the rope winch used for slipway uses the lower rope.
- The single-drum winch generally adds a rope arranging device when the number of layers of the wire rope exceeds 7 or when the deflection angle of the wire rope is greater than 3°.
- The working speed and pulling force of each layer of the single-drumwinch are different: the first layer has the largest pulling force and the slowest speed, and the outermost layer has the smallest pulling force and the fastest speed.
Other attachments
– Moving and fixed pulleys
– Guide wheels
– Cables
– Electrical equipment
– Generator set

Slipway Winch Calculation
How to calculate the pulling force of a marine slipway winch?
Here is an example:
- Ship length: 108 meters
- Ship width: 14 meters
- Ship height: 5.3 meters
- Ramp gradient ratio: 1:20 (2.8°)
- Ship weight is about 4000T
Calculation of the pulling force of the rope end of the winch:
- The sliding force F1=4000xsin(2.8°)=195t
- Friction F2=4000xcos(2.8°)x0.01=40t
- The ship’s ashore pulling force F3=F1+F2=235t
- Consider the safety factor F3”=1.25x235t=294t
- The pulling force of the rope end of the winchF=294/8=36.75t
Note:
- Airbag rolling friction coefficient- 0.01
- Safety factor- 1.25
- Pulley set magnification- 8
Therefore, a 40 ton slipway winch should be selected.
If you can’t provide pulling force, please feel free to contact our winch experts. You need to provide the angle of the ramp, the weight of the ship, etc. so that we can calculate it for you.
Other Uses of Boat Slipway Winches
This type of winch can also be used for ship breaking. If you need to dismantle your old ships, please kindly provide the pulling force of the winch, drum capacity, speed, etc. so that we can quote you.
