Learn About The Structure of Single Girder Overhead Crane
Single girder eot crane is mainly composed of four parts: bridge frame, electric hoist, bridge running mechanism and electrical control device. The overhead crane single girder has the characteristics of reasonable structure and strong rigidity. It can be used with CD1 single-speed electric hoist, MD1 double-speed electric hoist, or European standard electric hoist.
- Metal structure
The main beam adopts U-shaped groove formed by steel plate rolling, and then is assembled and welded with I-steel to form a box-shaped main beam. The cross beam is also rolled into U-shaped groove with steel plate and assembled into a box-shaped beam.
For the convenience of storage and transportation, the main beam and the end beam can be disassembled and transported, and use high-strength bolts to assemble the bridge during installation.
- Travelling mechanisms
Crane travelling mechanism adopts the separate driving mode, the driving and braking are completed by the conical motor, and the transmission adopts “open-close” gear transmission.
- Electrical equipment
The motor used in single girder overhead crane is a conical motor with a brake device. The control box is a special electrical control box (when operating on the ground) or a protection cabinet plus cam controller operation control (when operating in the driver’s cab).

Single beam overhead crane falls in two main configurations: top running and underhung system.
Top running single girder crane:
A cost-effective option with capacities up to 20 tons and span length 7.5-31.5m. The crane has low production cost and maintenance cost.
Under running single girder crane:
It has load capacities up to 10 tons and span length 3-16m. The crane has several unique advantages: reduced material cost; excellent side approach; maximum utilization of the building’s width and height; the possibility of using the existing ceiling girder for securing the crane track.
Here are a few questions to help you determine whether a top-running or under-running system is better for your facility and your lifting needs:
- Can you use the existing support structure or build a new support structure?
- Do you already have a runway in your facility?
- The design and layout of your facility and its ceiling height
- Your lifting requirements, such as load capacity, lifting height and hook approach
- How important is free and clean floor space?
AQ-LD overhead crane: the running motor adopts ZDY type cone motor (protection grade is IP44 or IP54, B or F grade insulation) or YSE soft start motor (protection grade IP44 or IP54, F grade insulation. The soft-start motor can effectively reduce the impact when the crane starts.
AQ-HD overhead crane: ABM three-in-one motor for lifting mechanism, ABB or SEW motor for running mechanism, Schneider Electric and inverter, etc.
AQ-LDY metallurgical casting crane: the lifting and running motor adopts a cone-rotor motor with a large starting torque, H-class insulation.
The main girder of an electric single girder overhead crane is the main load-bearing component of the crane, and also serves as the electric hoist running track.
Its cross-sectional form is usually a composite beam formed by welding and splicing I-beam and other steel or steel plates.
Steel material often uses Q235B or Q345B.
The span of an overhead travelling crane refers to the distance between the center lines of the wheels at both ends of the main girder of the crane, that is, the distance between the center lines of the cart rails.
