Marine Winch

Marine winch is widely used on ships, docks or shores for anchoring, mooring and towing various boats, or lifting and towing heavy objects on the ship. The commonly used marine winches are: anchor winch windlass, anchor mooring winch, mooring winch, towing winch, capstan. These winches can be electrically or hydraulically powered as per requirements. There are many optional functions to choose from to ensure that you end up with an ideal winch system.

Types of Marine Winches for Sale

Anchor winch

The winch is used to receive and release anchors and chains. There are different types of anchor winches: electric anchor winch, hydraulic anchor winch, anchor rope winch and anchor chain winch. The anchor windlass is usually installed on the main deck of the ship’s stern. The warping head on both sides of the sprocket can be used for line handling.

Mooring winch

The role of mooring operations in the operation of a ship is crucial. The mooring winch can operate effectively when the ship is moored or docked, and has many other functions such as drifting, support and positioning during loading and unloading, and at the same time adjusts with constant tension to compensate for deviations caused by vibration.

Buy A Marine Winch – Electric or Hydraulic?

When selecting a winch marine, energy efficiency is very important. The most commonly used winches are electric or hydraulic winches.

Electric marine winch use electricity directly from the generator set. This winch system is simple and easy to operate, convenient to repair and maintain. Electric winches are the great choice for light duty and moderate use.

Hydraulic marine winch works with fluid power, which uses a hydraulic system and a hydraulic motor pump between the generator set and the winch. It has stable operation, and can realize stepless speed regulation and automatically prevent overload. Hydraulic power winch can handle extreme heavy loads, so it is the best choice for large ships. When choosing a marine hydraulic winch, you must consider the electrical system that controls the winch. The control of the hydraulic winch includes a control panel display, joystick, switches and buttons.

How to Size The Winch?

In order to get the right size of the winch, you need to know the maximum load capacity of the winch, which must be higher than the maximum weight that needs to be lifted or towed. Generally speaking, it is necessary to provide traction capacity twice the load to be traction.

You also need to consider the winch capacity of the first winding layer. As the rope or chain winds, the winding diameter and winch speed will increase. At the same time, due to the increase in torque associated with the increase in winding diameter, the traction capacity of the winch decreases. You can estimate that the traction capacity of the winch is reduced by 13% per layer.

If you want the winch to be able to lift the set load, make sure that the load indicated by the marine winch manufacturer is not just a traction load.

The winch speed and drum diameter must be adapted to its purpose. These two factors determine the traction speed of the winch. You need to distinguish the rotation speed of the idle winch from the towing speed under full load.
